A new modern American eatery at Quaker Bridge Mall’s dining pavilion from the team behind The Borscht Belt. Two options at one counter. The Belt: Hand Carved offers classic deli sandwiches like pastrami, corned beef and brisket, a Reuben and a Rachel. Smashed By The Belt serves Angus smashburgers, single or double, “hot tots,” and spicy versions of each burger. Catering for home or business is available, as are kids’ menu items.

Clementina, Montclair

A new modern Italian restaurant has opened in Upper Montclair, transforming the former Saunders Hardware space on Valley Road. Chef and Partner Michele Rocchi, a native of Senigallia in Italy’s Le Marche region, leads Clementina, whose menu draws inspiration from the flavors and traditions of the Adriatic Coast.

The seasonal menu highlights handmade pasta, seafood, and traditional Italian dishes interpreted through Rocchi’s approach. Offerings include Tagliatelle with Shellfish, Maccheroncini al Fumé, Spaghetti alla Carbonara, Chicken al Potacchio, and Classic Eggplant Parmigiana. Clementina works with producers in both New Jersey and Italy, with everything from pasta to pastry made by hand.

A new coastal Italian-American restaurant has opened in Ortley Beach, bringing an elevated dining experience inspired by Italy’s Amalfi Coast and other celebrated coastal destinations to the Jersey Shore. Dune has taken over the former Rockafellas space along Route 35, which remained vacant after the longtime Italian restaurant closed.

The menu highlights seafood, crudos, oysters, caviar, handcrafted pastas, and elevated takes on Italian and American classics, including a signature chicken parm finished tableside. The experience extends beyond the menu with tableside presentations, caviar carts, fresh seafood displays, and other interactive elements designed to make guests part of the dining experience.

A home-based bakery is taking the next step by opening its first brick-and-mortar location in Belleville. The Gooey Roll Co., founded by Lisa Jensen, will celebrate its grand opening on August 22, bringing its handcrafted cinnamon rolls, specialty coffee, and rotating seasonal flavors to a permanent storefront.

What began as a hobby in Jensen’s home kitchen grew as friends, family, and coworkers began requesting her cinnamon rolls for gatherings and special occasions. After spending more than a year perfecting her recipe, Jensen turned the concept into The Gooey Roll Co. The menu features its signature cinnamon rolls with cream cheese or maple icing, along with specialty creations and new rotating flavors introduced throughout the year.

Founded by Trace and Jammie Miller in 2023, Konala specializes in high-protein, gluten-free bowls and salads served through a convenient drive-thru model, with everything prepared fresh on-site throughout the day.

The menu features customizable bases of white rice, brown rice, greens, or a combination, plus options like Greek Steak, Honey Sriracha Chicken, and Southwest Chicken, along with Snacking Bowls, fresh fruit, Protein Balls, and seasonal beverages. New Jersey entrepreneur and fitness enthusiast Anthony J. Menicola owns the Belleville location and has exclusive rights to develop Konala throughout New Jersey, with plans to open 10 locations across the state over the next five years.

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, Parsippany

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is expanding its New Jersey footprint with a new location at The District at 15Fifteen in Parsippany. The Japanese restaurant is known for its interactive dining experience, where guests can select plates of sushi from a revolving conveyor belt while ordering additional dishes through tableside technology. The Parsippany location celebrated its grand opening on August 21.

The menu includes more than 100 options ranging from sushi and sashimi to tempura, ramen, udon, and desserts. Kura also follows its “muten,” or “nothing added,” philosophy, emphasizing high-quality ingredients without artificial colorings, preservatives, seasonings, or sweeteners. The brand’s specialty sushi rice uses its own seasoned vinegar recipe, while broth for its noodle dishes is made from scratch daily.

Monaco’s Cafe, Mahwah

A new European-inspired café has opened in Mahwah, bringing an elevated coffee, brunch, and tea experience to Bergen County. Monaco’s Cafe pairs a polished yet welcoming atmosphere with a menu designed for everything from morning coffee and brunch to afternoon tea and special gatherings. The café celebrated its grand opening this summer.

The menu features signature lattes, espresso drinks, matcha, crepes, brunch plates, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. Guests can also enjoy specialty experiences like French High Tea and the Monaco Flight, a tasting trio of signature drinks. Monaco’s also offers private events and catered gatherings.

Pronto Pasta comes from Lisa and Omar Balouma and Abdellah Ksiyer, the Hoboken hospitality team behind Barbès, La Bohème, and Cafe Tati. The concept is designed for a quick lunch, casual dinner, or takeout, with limited seating.

A new Indian fusion restaurant and bar has opened in West Orange, bringing a mix of traditional Indian flavors and tavern favorites to Eagle Rock Avenue. Royal Mint celebrated its grand opening on August 13, welcoming guests for a ribbon-cutting before opening for full dinner service.

The restaurant describes its concept as a fusion of the tandoor and the tavern, pairing Indian spices and cooking techniques with burgers, wings, and a full bar program. The extensive menu includes chaats, tandoori specialties, curries, biryanis, seafood, lamb, and goat dishes, while the bar offers signature cocktails, wine, beer, and spirits.

A new upscale Indian restaurant has opened at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, adding a modern fine-dining experience to the resort’s culinary lineup. Sitar officially opened in July as part of Hard Rock’s $50 million investment in property upgrades and features views of the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

Led by Executive Chef Christopher Corda, the restaurant draws inspiration from India’s diverse regional cuisines, from the tandoor-cooked breads of Punjab to the coastal curries of Kerala, reimagined through a contemporary approach. The menu features tandoor specialties, curries, rice dishes, vegetarian and meat selections, while the dining room incorporates onyx marble, pearl-string chandeliers, Mughal-inspired arches, and other details influenced by Indian art and culture.

Thai Society Supper Club, Westfield

A new Thai dining concept has opened in Westfield, blending traditional Thai flavors with a contemporary supper club atmosphere. Thai Society Supper Club celebrated its grand opening on South Avenue West, centered on family recipes, Thai hospitality, and a modern approach to presentation and dining.

The menu features Thai classics like Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, curries, and fried rice alongside specialty dishes including Bangkok Duck, Pineapple Salmon Curry, Filet Mignon, and grilled salmon. A Shanghai-inspired restaurant is expanding into South Jersey with a new Delran location. Ugly Dumpling celebrated its grand opening on August 26, taking over the former Crab Du Jour space along Route 130. The Delran restaurant will be the brand’s sixth New Jersey location and its first in South Jersey.

Known for modern takes on classic Shanghai street food, Ugly Dumpling’s menu centers around handcrafted Xiao Long Bao and dumplings alongside wontons, wok-fired noodles, small plates, soups, and desserts. Guests can also enjoy boba tea and creative cocktails, with traditional dining, bar seating, and takeout available.
