Sea & Sand Indian Fusion just opened its doors in Highlands, NJ. The cozy space, tucked right along Bay Avenue, is a very welcome addition to the dining scene at the Jersey Shore. New Jersey has always been a melting pot of cultures, and restaurants like this remind me how lucky we are to taste the world right in our own backyard.
Chef’s Journey & Philosophy
Chef Premjit Namdev Khaire
What truly sets Sea & Sand apart is the vision of Chef Premjit Namdev Khaire. With nearly 30 years of culinary experience spanning India, the Middle East, Malaysia, and now the U.S., he brings an incredible depth of knowledge and artistry to every plate. Born in Mumbai into a family of chefs, Chef Premjit is carrying on a proud tradition, but with a flair that is uniquely his own.
One of his many roles was serving as the Embassy Chef for Ireland in Riyadh, where he designed high-profile menus for ambassadors and dignitaries. It’s the kind of background that explains the level of polish and creativity you see in each dish.
Menu Highlights
Chef Premjit’s signature Murg Mussalam
I couldn’t wait to dive in, and the dish that absolutely stole the show was Chef Premjit’s signature Murg Mussalam. This Mughlai-inspired masterpiece is unlike anything I’ve tried at the Shore: a boneless half tandoori chicken simmered in a rich, spiced tomato-based gravy, blended with grated boiled eggs and minced meat. The flavors were deep, layered, and luxurious, yet perfectly balanced so that every bite felt indulgent without being heavy. Paired with their warm, pillowy naan, it’s the kind of dish you’ll be thinking about long after you leave.
Lamb Dum Biryani
What really impressed me, though, were the little touches—how each spice was layered, how the sauces were balanced, and how the flavors lingered without overwhelming. The menu also leans into coastal influences, with lighter seafood options and hints of coconut and tamarind that remind you of India’s shoreline kitchens. And for those who love to share, the small plates are a fun way to sample a variety of flavors.
By the end of my meal, I found myself already planning my next visit. Sea & Sand isn’t just a great addition to Highlands—it’s the kind of restaurant that makes you want to bring friends, explore more of the menu, and linger over the flavors a little longer.

As the leaves begin to change, so do our appetites. Fall in New Jersey brings more than pumpkin picking and crisp air; it also brings flavors we talk about and look forward to all year. From the beloved pumpkin spice lattes to pumpkin-packed pastries and more, I’m lining up local cafés, bakeries, brunch, and dinner spots that will have you falling in love with fall instead of dreading the end of summer.
A locally owned café in Fair Lawn, CoZie Café is known for its specialty coffee and signature coffee flights. This fall, they’re serving up rotating seasonal drinks that will have you not just ready for the cooler weather, but excited for it. Whether you’re a fall enthusiast or simply a coffee lover in search of a new spot, this café is the perfect place to satisfy your caffeine cravings.
This spot is Fall through and through. Not only does the bakery serve up seasonal pastries, but it is set on a farm that offers festive autumn activities to match. Their famous apple cider donuts are a must-try, best enjoyed while soaking in the crisp fall atmosphere. It’s more than just a place to grab something delicious and filling. It’s the perfect destination to spend a cozy fall day and definitely deserves a spot at the top of your autumn list.
A cozy and welcoming café that deserves a top spot on your fall to-do list or even just your list of new cafés to try. Not only do they serve up delicious food, but their coffee drinks pair perfectly with the menu, making the whole experience memorable. This fall, they’re offering a seasonal twist on a classic: Pumpkin Cinnamon French Toast, perfect for both fall lovers and French toast fans alike.
Next on the list is an old-fashioned bakery that definitely deserves a spot on your fall lineup. Step inside and you’ll be greeted with French apple tarts, salted caramel apple cider cupcakes, pumpkin brioche, and more. If you’re craving something sweet, savory, and sure to fulfill all your fall dreams, this is the place to be.
One of my favorite coffee spots, this café is always welcoming, with staff who make sure you feel appreciated from the moment you walk in. Their creative flavors never disappoint, and every visit feels fresh thanks to a fall menu that changes each year—always giving you something new to look forward to. Beyond the drinks, their food is just as delicious, and the cozy library space makes it the perfect spot to hang out with friends, colleagues, or family. It’s definitely at the top of my list, and my go-to local café pick.
This shop specializes in cakes, specifically bundt cakes, and is renowned for its themed creations inspired by the seasons and special occasions. Fall is an especially sweet time to stop by, with festive flavors and designs that make their treats perfect for sharing at autumn gatherings or simply indulging your own sweet tooth.
A brunch spot that’s always at the top of my list, OverEasy Kitchen serves up some of the best food and drinks around. This fall, they’re rolling out Pumpkin Pancakes and seasonal sips that are perfect for breakfast or lunch and guaranteed to get you into the autumn spirit. Whether you’re already embracing fall or just looking for a new brunch favorite, this is the place to be.
Paris Baguette is a classic and for good reason. Known for its pastries and coffee drinks, this spot has something for every dessert lover and every fall enthusiast alike. From pumpkin spice lattes to festive cakes, their seasonal treats are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth and make your autumn feel complete.
Spire Coffeehouse is a beloved spot, especially in the fall, known for its Pumpkin Spice Lattes and a rotating selection of seasonal treats. With its warm, inviting atmosphere, this cozy café easily becomes an autumn favorite for anyone visiting the shore. It’s one of my top picks when I’m in the area, perfect for enjoying a comforting fall drink and soaking in the cozy vibes.

From the Great Pumpkin Latte to the Monster Matcha and other creative seasonal creations, each drink comes with a fun name and plenty of photo-worthy appeal. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a cozy fall beverage while snapping a few autumn-inspired pics along the way.
Looking for the perfect spot to unwind after work or enjoy a delicious dinner? Sinners Seafood & Steakhouse in Point Pleasant Beach has you covered. This fall, sip on their Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini the ultimate blend of cozy seasonal flavors in one irresistible drink.
This café is serving up all the fall vibes with a lineup that’s hard to resist apple pie latte, cookie butter latte, cinnamon mocha, and of course, the classic Pumpkin Spice Latte. But it doesn’t stop there. Their fall-inspired bites are just as tempting. I tried the pear cinnamon muffin, and maybe I’m biased, but it was the perfect taste of autumn, cozy, comforting, and absolutely delicious.
This restaurant is filled with delicious food and a variety of fall specials like spiced apple sangria, roasted black plum salad, and more. Their thoughtfully crafted menu is designed not only to satisfy seasonal cravings but to appeal to any craving year-round. Another honorable mention is the Pumpkin Old Fashioned, which puts a fresh spin on a classic fall favorite.
This Italian market is known for its fresh, homemade pasta and ravioli, and this fall, they’re introducing a seasonal favorite: Pumpkin Ravioli. Serve them with their Pumpkin Sauce for the perfect cozy autumn night or even a festive Halloween dinner. This dish balances savory flavors with a hint of sweetness. Each box comes with 12 frozen ravioli, ready to go straight from the freezer into boiling water, giving you a warm, homemade-style meal without the hassle of extra dishes. Beyond pasta, the market also has an incredible sub shop, making it the ultimate stop to satisfy both your Italian and seasonal cravings.
New Jersey’s dining scene shines brightest when flavors cross borders—and that’s exactly what this month’s new NJ restaurant openings deliver. From Thailand to Georgia, Japan to Jamaica, and many more cuisines in between, the lineup is a true global tour. And yes, there’s plenty of classic American comfort food in the mix, too.

I had the chance to stop by Anderson Market during their soft opening today, and I can already tell this is going to be one of the town’s favorite spots. Located at 200 Monmouth Street, the Market officially opens its doors on September 8th, but the buzz is already building.
A Historic Space, Reimagined
The Anderson Market calls the historic Anderson Building home—a property with deep roots in Red Bank’s story. Built in 1909 for Franklin Pierce Stryker’s livery and warehouse business, the building initially served the horse-and-carriage trade. As the automobile age dawned, Stryker transitioned his business, selling off his horses and carriages in 1918 to embrace the shift to autos.
Over time, new tenants brought new life, and one in particular—Anderson Moving & Storage—gave the property its familiar name. Eventually, the building sat vacant for nearly 25 to 30 years, until Metrovation purchased it in 2006. A significant redevelopment followed, adding a fourth story and restoring the structure into a modern, mixed-use property while preserving its character.
Now, after more than a century of change, the building has found its newest chapter as a hub for food, culture, and connection.
Founder Chris Viola puts it best: “We’re more than a food hall. We’re building a culturally driven space where local flavors and meaningful connections thrive.”
The People Behind the Place: Culture Collective
Behind the modern, hospitality-forward transformation of this space is Culture Collective, a hospitality group rooted in Asbury Park, NJ. Since 2015, they’ve been leading with genuine hospitality, crafting remarkable experiences, and creating community impact. They’re the team behind some of the Shore’s most beloved spots—including Reyla, Laylow, and Barrio Costero —and now they’ve brought that same energy to Red Bank with Anderson Market.
A Taste of What’s Inside
The Market
The vendor lineup is already impressive and offers something for everyone:
Noodles (Culture Collective concept) – comforting bowls with global flair
As a Jersey Shore local, I was especially excited to see two Point Pleasant Beach brands—Molly Boards and The Butcher & The Bull—now with their own stalls at Anderson Market. Also, Local 130 from Asbury Park and Nick & Sons from Spring Lake. It’s a great example of how the Market is bringing beloved local names into a new spotlight.
Molly Boards stall serving gourmet cheese and charcuterie-inspired grilled cheese
Walking through, you can feel the energy. Each stall has its own personality, but together they create a buzzing, connected atmosphere.
More Than a Market
Anderson Market isn’t just about food—it’s about creating experiences. With a lounge area and flexible event space, it’s poised to become a cultural anchor for Red Bank, where people can gather for tastings, pop-ups, and community happenings.
Why I’ll Be Back
During my visit, I grabbed coffee at Booskerdoo, sampled an amazing Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie from Nick & Sons, indulged in a gourmet grilled cheese at Molly Boards (who used Nick & Sons’ amazing bread), and couldn’t stop eating the addictive fried chicken from Namkeen. Everything felt thoughtful, from the design of the space to the stories behind each vendor. It’s rare to find a place that feels polished yet inviting right from the start—but Anderson Market has nailed it.
Namkeen is known for their crispy-coated, buttermilk-brined hot chicken smothered in a special blend of Pakistani spices.
The market will be open 7 days a week starting on September 8th. I highly recommend making plans to check it out. Whether you go for the food, the community vibe, or to explore something new in Red Bank, this is one spot that’s going to be on repeat.
And let’s be honest—between crispy, spicy fried chicken, melty grilled cheese, fresh bread and pastries, gourmet meats and seafood, hard-to-find culinary products, and local coffee, who wouldn’t want to linger just a little longer? Anderson Market isn’t just opening its doors, it’s opening a new chapter for Red Bank’s food scene—and I can’t wait to go back for another bite.
September 5th is a date I circle on the calendar early in the year—usually right around the first week of January, when those New Year’s resolutions are already starting to slip.
This year, it falls on the first Friday after Labor Day, the first Friday of the school year for most people, and the kickoff of the NFL season. It’s a date that carries that “kid-on-Christmas-morning” kind of excitement for me—and hopefully for you—because it is National Cheese Pizza Day.
As everyone who knows me knows, I only eat plain cheese pies—so this day couldn’t be more perfect.
Recently, in the news, there was an article from the Food Network that mentioned the best slice in every state. I’m not going to go too deep into their NJ choice, but I did make it my top priority to hop in the truck and take the 1-hour 12-minute drive to find out for myself. I was confused to say the least, so after not finishing my two slices, I had to figure out how this came about.
I reached out to the author of the article, who told me she wrote it 8 years ago! Somehow it’s resurfaced, and people have been talking. So I decided to dip back into my notebook and bring you my list of NJ pizza slices you should be talking about now…
PizzaTown USA, Elmwood Park, NJ
PizzaTown USA in Elmwood Park
The most quintessential NJ pizza spot you can come across. PizzaTown is the spot I would send anyone to who is looking for a perfect example of New Jersey pizza.
Casa D Pizza, Denville, NJ
Casa D Pizza
A Morris County hidden gem, although it’s probably the best pizza in the county, pies are started in a conventional gas oven & finished in a wood-fired brick oven for a crust that is unmatched.
John’s Boy Pizzeria, Glen Rock, NJ
John’s Boy Pizzeria in Glen Rock
I’m biased on this one; I grew up on these slices, so they always bring me back to a simpler time. But they can go head-to-head with anyone on any day.
Marucas Tomato Pies, Seaside Heights, NJ
Marucas Tomato Pies
A slice on the boards in the middle of summer, there is nothing more New Jersey than that, and my pick for a boardwalk slice comes from the one and only Marucas on the boards in Seaside Heights.
Corner Square, Maplewood, NJ
Corner Square in Maplewood
Not your traditional plain slice, but it’s my list, and I can do with it what I want. The Square’s only slice shop just jumped ship from NY to join the Jersey Pizza scene. And it’s some of the best pizza you can find. I prefer an edge slice vs the corner.
Now, if you’re looking for more than a slice, let me tell you my top 5ish spots in the state to quench your pizza thirst
*in no particular order wink wink
Vinnie’s Pan Pizza, Milburn
Squares and Fare, Somers Point
Rosie’s, Point Pleasant
The Galley, Asbury Park
Casanos Pizza Parlor, Rutherford
Star Tavern, Orange
Bucky’s, Chatham
Luigi’s Famous Pizza, Lincroft
Pizzeria Lucci, Belmar
Patsy’s Tavern, Paterson
Both of these lists are ever-changing; they’re also my opinion as a dude who loves pizza. I’m not an expert, and I don’t think anyone is in the world of pizza. We’re always on the hunt for the next “best” pizza, so until the next pizza holiday, I’ll be chasing down my dream of becoming a pizza expert. Until then, I’ll just be a pizza influencer.
The amuse-bouche at our dinner was a delicate stuffed squash blossom stuffed with house-made whipped ricotta over that luscious yellow heirloom tomato sauce.
The sauce, crafted by Chef Steve MacLean, was unlike any red sauce I’d ever tried. Sweet, mellow, and kissed with just the right balance of garlic, onion, and fresh basil—it felt like summer captured in a spoonful. I was so blown away, I had to get my hands on the recipe and recreate it at home.
Spoonful of that velvety smooth sauce.
Lucky for us, Chef Steve was generous enough to share his secret. And trust me—you’ll want to make this one before yellow tomato season slips away.
Why Yellow Tomatoes?
yellow tomatoes after blanching
While red tomatoes are the go-to for sauces, yellow heirlooms bring a unique character to the table. They’re less acidic, slightly fruity, and lend the sauce a gorgeous golden hue that looks as inviting as it tastes. Combined with slow-cooked onions, garlic, and the fragrance of just-picked basil, the result is a sauce that’s bright, silky, and layered with flavor.
How to Use Yellow Tomato Sauce
This isn’t just a pasta sauce (though it makes spaghetti feel like a special occasion). It’s versatile and shines in all sorts of dishes:
Spoon it over grilled fish or chicken.
Add a little cream and make it a delicious soup.
Drizzle over fresh mozzarella or burrata with crusty bread.
Freeze a batch now to enjoy that farm-fresh flavor all winter long.
A Visit Worth Making
Chef Steve making a brief appearance duing one of his dinners to describe the dish his guests were about to enjoy.
If you haven’t yet visited The Farm at Glenwood Mountain, it’s more than a farm—it’s an experience. From Chef-led dinners that celebrate the harvest, to the iconic Highland cows that greet guests like gentle celebrities, Glenwood is a living showcase of New Jersey’s agricultural beauty.
Yield: Yield: About 1.5 quarts
Heirloom Yellow Tomato Sauce
I first tried this tomato sauce at dinner on The Farm at Glenwood Mountain, and I was so blown away by it that I purchased some that night from their store. Since the farm is a 2-hour drive for me, I begged them for the recipe. I'm so obsessed with this sauce, I've already ordered two seed catalogs to source yellow tomato seeds for next year.
Ingredients
2 lbs. heirloom yellow tomatoes
1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 tsp sea salt or to taste
1 tsp of freshly cracked black pepper
1 large bunch of basil leaves, tied together with kitchen string
Instructions
Bring a large pot of water to a boil to blanch the tomatoes.
While water is coming to a boil, score a small “X” on the bottom of the tomatoes.
Fill a large bowl with ice and water, and set aside for cooling tomatoes after blanching.
Blanch the scored tomatoes in the boiling water for 30-60 seconds, then transfer to the ice bath to cool.
Once the tomatoes are cool enough to handle, peel the skins off starting where the “X” is marked.
Cut the peeled tomatoes in half, core them and remove the seeds, then roughly chop the flesh.
In a wide saucepan or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-low heat.
Add the onion, salt, and pepper to the pan and cook gently for 6-8 minutes, until the onions are soft and translucent but not browned.
Add the sliced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, just until the garlic is fragrant.
Stir in the chopped yellow tomatoes and the bunch of basil.
Lower the heat to a gentle simmer and cook uncovered for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce has thickened and the tomatoes have broken down.
Remove the bunch of basil and discard.
For a smooth sauce, use an immersion blender or transfer the sauce to a blender and puree. Pass the blended sauce through a fine-mesh strainer, adjust seasoning as needed, and enjoy.
