Seven New Jersey Wineries Offer “2 for $26” Tasting Deal

Wine lovers looking for an easy winter-to-spring getaway have a new reason to explore New Jersey wineries in Hunterdon County. Access Greater Hunterdon Wine Country has launched a “2 for $26” wine tasting promotion, inviting visitors to enjoy local wineries at a special seasonal rate through April 2026, excluding Valentine’s Day weekend.

The offer is simple: visit a participating winery and ask for the Access Greater Hunterdon tasting to receive two tastings for $26, or one for $13, plus special discounts on select bottles to take home. Guests can visit one winery or explore several over multiple trips.

It’s not just dinner, it’s a full experience. Overall, NJ diners are craving experiences. I definitely think build-your-own protein and power bowl spots are about to have a moment in 2026. People want food that feels filling and balanced without feeling like “diet food,” and being able to customize everything just makes sense.

For 2026, I’m seeing a big move toward comfort-focused food with an elevated twist. People can’t get enough of familiar favorites, especially when they’re reimagined with globally inspired flavors or viral, Instagram/TikTok-worthy spins. Even the coffee shop scene has exploded in New Jersey, with each spot offering drinks in unique styles, from seasonal flavors to beautifully presented lattes designed for social media.

Guests want their dining experiences to feel fun and memorable, whether that’s through chef-driven concepts, pop-ups, themed menus, or interactive elements that make them feel special and shareable on social media. Social platforms have essentially become the new menu, with most people checking Instagram or TikTok before trying a new spot. 

In New Jersey, I think we’ll continue to see smaller towns emerge as dining destinations, especially along the Shore (Asbury Park, Long Branch, etc.) and in walkable downtown areas like Montclair and Princeton. These spots are attracting creative chefs and hospitality concepts that focus just as much on atmosphere and community as they do on great food.

Over the past year, pizza has firmly claimed its spot as the fastest-growing trend in the food world—and I don’t see that momentum slowing down at all in 2026. For any foodie, pizza remains a guaranteed way to get noticed, spark conversation, and go viral. That wave is still cresting.

But here’s my real prediction—bookmark this one: 2026 is the year of chicken parm.

Toward the end of 2025, chicken parm started showing serious signs of becoming a viral powerhouse. From spicy versions to tableside presentations, mini pizza-box parms, and over-the-top builds, it’s evolving fast—and restaurants are taking notice.

In my eyes, the OGs setting the standard right now are Russillo in Caldwell, Bar Mutz in Westwood, and Casanos Pizza Parlor in Rutherford—each owning a different lane of what a viral chicken parm can be. What’s coming next feels like a full-on chicken parm renaissance, with restaurants chasing that breakout moment the same way they once did with pizza.

As for emerging trends, I’m seeing omakase-style dining gaining traction beyond sushi. I went to a place in Jersey City, NJ called One World Pizza, which is reservation-only, and they seat guests at a four-person counter chef’s table. Their pizzas were inspired by popular cuisine from around the world, hence the name of the spot. I had bulgogi, Jamaican jerk brisket, elote, and tartufata. As far as trending foods, I just had a viral Chicken Caesar Salad sandwich from Staci’s Sandwich Joint in Verona, NJ. People are literally waiting in line for over an hour to get their hands on it. Chicken Caesar wraps and sandwiches pop up everywhere because they’re familiar, satisfying, and easy to work!

As far as emerging dining destinations go, Westfield has a lot of amazing, diverse restaurants I’ve been to in the past year. If you travel North, Sparta is a great dining destination, especially in the spring/summer, with some must-try waterfront dining spots. I also love Rutherford, NJ, as you can park the car and walk up and down Park Avenue and find a restaurant that a group of friends and/or family can agree on.

I think 2026 will continue to push cultural cuisines into the spotlight, especially foods rooted in Asian cultures. Korean cuisine in particular is having a moment, fueled by the rise of Korean pop culture in the U.S. Dishes like KBBQ and Korean fried chicken are showing up on more menus, and it’s exciting to see them get the recognition they deserve. I’ve also noticed the growing popularity of revolving sushi bars. Experiences like conveyor-belt sushi turn a meal into something interactive and memorable, and I expect that novelty-driven dining will continue to grow.

Beyond the food itself, diners are increasingly looking for full experiences. Holiday pop-ups, immersive décor, and themed menus have become a big draw. In other cities, fan-based pop-ups inspired by Wicked and Stranger Things combine themed drinks, bites, and atmosphere. I hope 2026 brings more of these pop culture–driven dining experiences closer to home.

Food in Jersey is expensive, so seeing affordable options again feels refreshing.

Another trend I can’t stop thinking about is cultural fusion done right. A perfect example is Bonny’s BBQ, a Filipino and Jamaican combo I never would’ve expected, but it works so well.

On a side note: Metuchen is really having a moment right now. The food scene there is not playing, and I love how diverse the restaurants are becoming. They have Meximodo, Duke’s Steakhouse, Hatch 44, and so many amazing gems.

A beloved pop-up Jewish deli in Jersey City is shaking things up on the final night of Hanukkah. Known for honoring Jewish deli tradition while never being afraid to riff, Hank Schwartz’s Delicatessen & Appetizing decided to go delightfully off-book this year, offering its loyal following something both meaningful and unexpected.

Yes, the classics are still there: crispy, golden latkes and chocolate gelt dusted in edible gold to celebrate the season. But on the final night of Hanukkah, owner and self-taught chef Jason Stahl is taking things several steps further with a one-night-only debut that feels both deeply personal and wildly creative.

As part of a kitchen takeover at The Alps in Jersey City, Stahl will unveil The Feast of the Smoked & Cured Fishes — a Jewish deli take on the Italian American Feast of the Seven Fishes traditionally served on Christmas Eve. Inspired by his wife’s Italian family tradition, this reimagined “seacuterie” board celebrates Hanukkah through fish, symbolism, and storytelling.

The concept is elegant in its simplicity: up to eight smoked and cured fishes, one for each night of Hanukkah and one for each candle lit on the menorah.

Expect a board layered with flavor and finesse, featuring selections such as:

  • citrus-bright gravlax
  • classic Nova smoked salmon

Newark is once again transforming into a winter wonderland! Newark Alliance, in partnership with the City of Newark, the Newark Arts & Education District, and Invest Newark, is ringing in the holiday season with a creative campaign showcasing the city’s robust holiday programming. Downtown Newark for the Holidays highlights the city’s ample seasonal offerings and vibrant small-business community to amplify Newark as the perfect destination for residents and visitors from November 29 through January 4.

The beloved Newark Winter Village holiday attraction located at Mulberry Commons will feature an expanded Holiday Marketplace hosted by Invest Newark, offering dozens of local vendors from across all city wards. Guests can shop for handmade gifts, savor seasonal treats, and even enjoy new special cocktails and craft beverages in the festive open-air setting. The Winter Village serves as a central hub linking visitors to Downtown Newark’s broader holiday offerings, including cultural experiences, shopping promotions, and community-driven activations throughout the district.

Newark Winter Village officially opens November 29 from 4–8 p.m., then continues Wednesdays from 4–8 p.m. and weekends from 12–8 p.m. through January.

Wednesdays will serve as Community Days, featuring discounted admission and special programming for Newark residents. Admission is free, but reservations and tickets are required for ice skating, bumper cars, and igloo rentals. Families can also take advantage of the always-popular “Learn to Skate” sessions every Saturday morning and visit Santa for photos on select weekends throughout the season.

here in New Jersey, five years represents fortitude and survival; a commitment to
preserving the beloved Garden State diner tradition. The milestone for the diner is especially significant, as it first opened during the dark days of COVID-19.

A Family Affair

Alps Diner is a family affair, operated by three partners: brothers Tommy and
Ehab Hanna and their cousin Sam Fanous. Tommy and Ehab hail from Alexandria, Egypt, and came to the United States nearly three decades ago. Tommy said their journey is similar to the immigrant story of the many Greek families that came to New Jersey over the years, determined to live the “American Dream” in the diner business.

“I worked at the Gotham City Diner in Ridgefield for 25 years,” Tommy said. “I
learned from the Greek owners. I started as a busboy and worked my way up
to become the general manager.”

As an occupation, the diner enterprise isn’t for everyone, Tommy acknowledged,
citing the long hours required to become successful. “But there’s something about the diner business that draws you in. I like working for my customers. I like working with my employees. They make me happy.”

A Pandemic-Era Acquisition

In 2020, Tommy and his family partners decided it was time to acquire their own
diner. This is a typical roadmap in the diner business, as many aspiring entrepreneurs soon realize the value of owning a diner. As hard as it is to start and launch a restaurant, the task at Alps Diner was even more challenging, as they made their move at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, no one realized how contagious or deadly the virus would become, or how long it would last.

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in New Jersey occurred in Bergen County
on March 2, 2020. A state of emergency was declared seven days later, and a
statewide curfew was imposed on March 16 on public venues such as diners, bars, 
and movie theaters.

The pandemic further accelerated the diner downturn, and many businesses were
forced to close, but the owners at Alps persevered and remained focused on their
mission. “It was difficult,” Tommy admitted, looking grim as he recalled the Covid
memories. “We did interior renovations and worked hard—seven days a week—until things improved.”

Today, Alps Diner boasts of an extensive menu and daily specials, especially a full
slate of breakfast dishes such as eggs of all types, pancakes, waffles, wraps, griddle
and skillet specialties; lunch sandwiches, soups, burgers and wraps, and platters
such as Mac and Cheese and an assortment of supper platters—beef, chicken and
seafood, along with salads.

The affable Chris Vergano, who has served as mayor of Wayne since 2008, popped into Alps Diner on Election Day to congratulate the owners.

On the diner’s anniversary day, I dined on Buffalo shrimp on a soft, flatbread pizza. Delicious. For dessert, I enjoyed a seasonal favorite: a slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream, along with three cups of coffee.

Morris Nathanson (1927-2022) of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the renowned
architect, artist, and pioneer of contemporary restaurant architecture, designed the
eye-catching Alps Diner. The eatery originally was known as “Burger Deluxe” when it opened in the fall of 2008. This was a period when various upscale burger
chains were emerging on the U.S. restaurant circuit.

Nathanson also designed the ultra-modern, space-age style Skylark Diner, located
on northbound Route 1 in Edison, and the Americana Diner on the northbound side
of Route 130 in East Windsor, which has since been remodeled as the Americana
Kitchen and Bar.

Homage to the Alps Mountains in Europe

Before the launch of Burger Deluxe, the site on Route 23 was home to the
Spindletop Diner in the 1960s and 1970s, which later transitioned into the
Northstar Diner. The now-defunct Master Diner manufacturing company of
Pequannock built the Spindletop. The name “Alps” presumably references the
majestic European mountain range. There’s also an Alps Road (Route 670) located
about a mile south of the diner on Route 23.

Chef de Rosa’s culinary journey stretches from his hometown of Naples to Michelin-level kitchens in New York and Buenos Aires. His philosophy is simple: let quality ingredients shine, with technique and hospitality that transform dinner into an experience. After my visit, I can confidently say — mission accomplished.

We began the evening with two cocktails, both prepared tableside for that extra touch of flair. The Smoked Old Fashioned arrived enveloped in a wisp of aromatic smoke that set the tone for the night — smooth, bold, and elegant. My companion opted for the Gin Martini, crisp and expertly chilled, a perfect classic executed with precision.

An Italian Wine Journey

Naturally, the wine program reflects Chef de Rosa’s background as a sommelier and his deep love for Italian wine. The all-Italian wine list (except for a few champagnes) reads like a journey through Italy’s diverse regions. Familiar varietals, such as Sauvignon Blanc, share the page with Timorasso, a rich and sharp white wine from Piedmont that’s rarely found on menus stateside. Among the reds, guests can sip everything from classic Chianti to the more obscure Cannonau of Sardinia. For those looking to splurge, the reserve selection features prestigious bottles, such as Dal Forno Amarone and Sassicaia — benchmarks of Italian winemaking excellence. With more than 30 wines by the glass, all kept at perfect temperature in the restaurant’s wine cave, guests are encouraged to experiment and discover new favorites. Every pour arrives in crystal stemware, and wines of a certain age are carefully decanted, ensuring the experience is as refined as the cuisine.

A Stunning Start

Our first bite came in the form of Calamari, fork-and-knife fashion — a creative presentation that’s as beautiful as it is time-consuming. Clearly, the kitchen takes pride in the details here. Each ring was tender, flavorful, and delicately plated, setting the stage for what was to come.

Impeccable Service, the Old-School Way

What truly elevates the Vette experience, beyond the exceptional food, is the impeccable, old-school service. The staff, dressed in ties and jackets, exude professionalism and warmth. Every movement feels intentional — from the way plates are presented to the cadence of conversation. Our server’s knowledge of the wine list was remarkable; he offered thoughtful pairing suggestions that perfectly complemented each course. It’s rare these days to find service that blends such formality with genuine hospitality — a reminder that fine dining, when done right, is as much about people as it is about plates.

Next came two small plates of house-made pasta that stole my heart. The Gnocchi Sorrentina — tender pillows in a rich tomato and mozzarella sauce — was pure comfort, yet refined.

The Scialatelli Fra’ Diavolo with wild shrimp brought a lively kick, with the spice perfectly balanced by the sweetness of the shrimp and the brightness of the tomato sauce. Both dishes showcased the finesse and care that go into every component.

The Main Event

For my entrée, I chose the Snapper Acquapazza, poached and finished tableside with a pour of cherry tomato sauce. The presentation was simple but breathtaking. The fish was tender and delicately seasoned, while the sauce was bright, tangy, and perfectly salted — the kind of dish that stops conversation mid-bite. This one was the standout for me.

My dining companion’s Veal Scaloppine Marsala with mixed mushrooms was equally impressive. He declared it “knife-optional,” thanks to its tenderness, and the mushrooms were sautéed and seasoned to perfection.

A Sweet Finale

We ended the evening with a touch of drama: tableside Tiramisu. Fresh espresso was poured over ladyfingers, then layered with mascarpone whipped cream and finished with a dusting of cocoa powder. It was light, luscious, and the perfect pairing with a lovely dessert wine and espresso.
