Grand Tasting of 300+ Wines, Beers & Spirits at Nanina’s in the Park
October 10, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
$100Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation, along with co-founders Kim and Stew Leonard Jr., will host a Grand Tasting of more than 300 wines, beers, and spirits on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Nanina’s in the Park. Tickets are $100/each and are available at Stew Leonard’s Wines & Spirits in Clifton, Paramus, and Springfield and via www.stewswines.com.
The event will benefit Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation and proceeds will be donated to local New Jersey organizations that support water safety education and awareness. In 2017, the event raised almost $15,000 and provided dozens of free or low-cost swimming lessons and hours of lifeguard training at the Clifton Boys and Girls Club, Westfield YMCA, Ridgewood YMCA, and Wyckoff YMCA.
At the event, a variety of wines, local spirits – including bourbon, gin, whiskey, and vodka – will be tasted alongside a selection of local beers. Notable local beers include Jersey Girl King Gambrinus Belgian Tripel, Jersey Girl Pilsner, and Jersey Girl Sun-kissed Citra while notable bourbons include Hudson Baby Bourbon, first bourbon whiskey to be distilled in New York, as well as Crossroads Bourbon Whiskey, the first aged bourbon whiskey produced in New Jersey since before Prohibition. Wines representing more than a dozen countries will also be offered that evening, including wines that are not commonly featured during in-store tastings:
- Damilano Barolo Lecinquevigne 2013: Rated 93 Points by Wine Advocate. An intense bouquet with tertiary notes of rose, leather, tobacco, and emerging notes of violet. The taste is ample and embracing, with a soft, persistent finish.
- 2015 Calera Central Coast Pinot Noir: Rated 92 Points by Wine Advocate. This Pinot has an alluring silky texture with deep flavors of black cherry, baking spice and a whisper of licorice. It’s nicely structured and lingers beautifully on the finish.
- 2016 Stags Leap Chardonnay Napa Valley: Rated 90 Points by Wine Advocate. With well-integrated vanilla oak notes, a subtle almond undertone, and a flinty minerality on the finish, this wine is full, rich and bright, yet generous in style and maintains freshness due to its acidity, which creates a Chardonnay of lovely complexity and depth.
The chefs from Nanina’s in the Park have put together a fresh and sophisticated menu to compliment the array of fine wines, spirits, and beers that will be offered at the Grand Tasting. Passed appetizers will be complemented by a selection of meats and cheeses – featuring assorted cured meats, grilled and marinated vegetables, and fresh mozzarella – as well as entrée and carving stations.
