After pursuing a degree in microbiology from the University of Washington Neufeld finessed his winemaking skills at Chateau St. Michelle, Silver Lake, and Glen Fiona before joining Gilbert Cellars in 2007 as winemaker. As a side business Neufeld made his first JB Neufeld vintage in 2008 with grapes grown in Yakima Valley, Washington, an AVA wine region known for its cabernet grapes.
He continues with both roles. JB Neufeld, a small production boutique winery, produces approximately 1,000 cases per year. He recently introduced a new label jb neufeld, which produces 900 cases of wines specifically for restaurants to serve by-the-glass. Red Horse by David Burke has JB Neufeld wines by the bottle on its wine list. The wine list was recently awarded the “Wine Spectator Award of Excellence”.
About his wines and the area where the grapes are gown, Neufeld writes on his website:
“Our goal is to create wines with a sense of place. We think Cabernet is one of the best varieties for communicating where (and how) it was grown without too many winemaker interruptions. When you enjoy one of our cabs you can get a real feel for what the Yakima Valley has to offer the world of wine. Minimal winemaker intervention-maximum terrior expression.”
Wines at the dinner will be available for sale at retail at Red Horse.

Earlier Red Horse was named “New Jersey’s Best New Restaurant 2021” by Star Ledger and NJ Monthly.
