January 28: Montclair Food & Wine Festival kicks off 2017 with the Speakeasy, at the Wellmont Theater. Enjoy a true throwback event with libations from Montclair’s Amanti Vino, samples from 20 area restaurants, and music from Trent Armand Kendall + Brass Illusion. January 29: Raise a glass of apple cider at Terhune Orchards, in celebration of the annual British tradition of Wassailing the Apple Trees. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. guests will partake in music making, toasts of hot cider, and placing gifts of cider-soaked bread in the tree branches. February 4: Sample over 150 beers at the 7th Annual Great Beer Expo: Meadowlands. This beer tasting event will showcase breweries from around the corner, across the country and around the globe. There will be two event sessions, one from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the next from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $45 +tax/fees each when purchased online in advance of the event. February 26: It’s time to get saucy for the 2017 Hammonton Gravy Vs Sauce Competition. The contest will feature two divisions (homemade and professional), each broken into four categories: red, white, meat, and other. First and second place for each will be selected by the event judges, and People’s Choice for each will be selected by the general public. Participation is $10 per entry.
