This weekend:

Throughout January: Blue Morel Restaurant and Wine Bar is giving back to the community in a big way. For every soup sold in January, Blue Morel will donate $1 to the Community Soup Kitchen & Outreach Center, which provides nutritious meals in a warm, safe, and caring environment, free of charge, no questions asked, to anyone who comes seeking nourishment. Blue Morel, 2 Whippany Road, Morristown, 973-451-2619. Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: The Morris County Winter Farmers Market is in a new location, and can now be found at Alexander Hamilton School, 24 Mills Street, Morristown.

January 23 and 24: Bellview Winery holds its Annual Winter Wine Weekend, from noon to 5 p.m. Enjoy some wine, good food, music and a bonfire. The 2013 vintages of Cabernet Franc and merlot will be available for tasting and purchase. Admission is free, and wine tasting is optional for $5 for eight tastes (includes souvenir glass). 150 Atlantic St., Landisville.

January 23 and 24: It’s Wine & Comfort Food Weekend at Sharrott Winery, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy wine and food pairings chosen by Sharrott’s own winemaker. Small bites of soups, stews, mac-n-cheese, plus Sharrott family recipes! Free admission; $8 wine tasting. Sharrott Winery, 370 S. Egg Harbor Road, Blue Anchor.

January 28: The Montclair Food & Wine Festival’s Frost Bites delivers many small bites and plenty of bubbly! Warm up for the big late spring event with this celebration of food and drink, featuring 20 top local chefs, live modern rock, and a VIP meet-and-greet with NJ native and Food Network star Chef Amanda Freitag. Tickets are now on sale at various package prices. 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Womans Club of Upper Montclair, 200 Cooper Avenue, Montclair.

chili-cook-off_contest-800x500January 30: Come on down to the inaugural Meadowlands Homestyle Chili Cookoff, at the Meadowlands Racetrack. The tasting panel will judge at 7:30 p.m. and the People’s Choice will take place at 8 p.m. in the food court. Contestants must register by January 28, and must be at least 18 years of age. The grand prize winner will walk away with $1,000 and a spot at the International Chili Society’s World Championship Homestyle Chili Cookoff in Reno, NV! January 30 and 31: The 2016 Northeast Organic Farming Association-NJ Winter Conference at Brookdale Community College in Tinton Falls features more than 50 organic-agriculture-based sessions, packed into one weekend. Attend one or both days. Speakers include Jon McConaughy of Double Brook Farm; Jack Kittredge, policy director of NOFA-MA and editor of The Natural Farmer; NPR’s Mike McGrath; Jess Niederer of Chickadee Farm; Dorothy Mullen of The Suppers Programs; and keynote speaker Kathleen Delate. February 4: Come on down to the River Vale Winter Market, in the Town Hall parking lot. Additional dates include February 18, and March 3 and 17. 406 Rivervale Road, River Vale.

February 6: The 6th Annual Great Beer Festival opens its doors at the Meadowlands Expo Center, with 80+ brewers and 150+ beers. Sessions include 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (General admission is $45 per person, $10 for designated drivers. Entrants must be 21+.)

February 7: With 25 farmers and food artisans, the Indoor Winter Farmers Market at the Woodland in Maplewood is the place to be, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. A suggested donation of $3 per person will benefit Slow Food Northern NJ‘s school and community garden fund. Swing by for sustainably raised vegetables, meats, eggs, cheese, bread, baked goods, coffee, chocolate and more. February 18: Stop by the Princeton Farmers Market at the Princeton Public Library for winter produce, meats and eggs, honey, baked goods, candles, linens, French confections, and more from local farmers and artisans. Upcoming dates and locations include March 24 at The Nassau Inn and April 21 at the Princeton Public Library. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

February 19: The Great American Steakhouse Dinner sets the wheels in motion for Jersey Shore Wine Weekend, at the Ocean Place Resort & Spa in Long Branch. Get ready for a four-course dinner paired with wines, created by Executive Chef Peter Csikos. On the menu: steakhouse iceberg with applewood smoked bacon, red onion, tomato, and creamy blue cheese dressing, paired with 2014 Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc; french onion soup with crouton raft and melted gruyère, paired with 2010 Joseph Drouhin Morgon Cru Beaujolais; dry aged NY filet mignon or fresh Atlantic halibut with anna potatoes and roasted root vegetables, paired with 2011 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Yamhill; NY cheesecake with toasted almonds, shaved chocolate and chantilly cream, paired with 2007 Quinta do Portal Grande Reserva. March 4, 5, 6: Join Jersey Bites at the New Jersey Home Show in Edison, with cooking demonstrations from some of the state’s top chefs at the Jersey Bites Cooking Pavillion. Stay tuned for details and updates as the event approaches—we can’t wait to see you there!

March 5: One VIP session! Two general admission sessions! $12 off if you book by January 24. $10 for designated drivers. 21 and over (photo ID required). 200+ brewers. These are the numbers behind the Big Brew Beer Festival, at the Morristown Armory. Prices change as the event approaches, so be sure to check the specifics at BigBrewNJ.com. March 20: Get ready for the third annual Celebrity Food & Wine Showcase & Expo from Giants of Generosity, at 1:30 p.m. This fundraiser, created to assist locals in need offers guests samples from food and wine vendors, a silent auction, and live entertainment. Students from Bergen Community College’s culinary arts program will compete for a $500 scholarship offered by Mariner’s Bank, and this year’s celebrity competitors will be Carissa Lawson, anchor from News12 New Jersey, and Sheryl A. Fody, executive producer of Consumer 411. The winner of the virtual 50/50 raffle will also be announced at the event.
