Foodie Things to Do this Weekend and Beyond


This weekend:

June 20 and June 21: Swing into summer at Baymen’s Food Festival Enjoy some tasty crabs, clams, scallops and shrimp from local vendors.  The event will also feature live music from The Mott’s Creek Pickers on Saturday, The Billy Walton Band on Sunday, craft beers, family activities and boat rides. Attendees can talk to commercial fisherman about their life on sea or attend a clam shucking class. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, 62 years and older, and $5 for children ages 5 to 12. June 21: Make sure to bring Dad to the Food Truck Fete this Father’s Day from 12-5pm for a party to remember, with 14 of the area’s best food trucks in haul.  The food trucks will be Cupcake Carnival, Tico’s Juices, Cow and the Curd, Amandas Bananas and many more! There will be face painting, mini car and truck races, a photo booth and DJ music. Admission is $3 with some proceeds benefiting the West Windsor Arts Council. Vaughn lot, Princeton Junction.

Through June 21: Go for a hayride and pick-your-own strawberries at the annual Alstede Farms Strawberry Festival every weekend through June 21. There will be dessert tastings and family activities, such as pony rides, tractor rides, a hay wagon and moon bounce. The festival tent will be open from 11am to 5pm. 1 Alstede Farms Lane, Chester.

June 23: Come out to Spring Lake Heights to see the 2015 TASTE Award Winners announced during a four-course wine paired dinner with live music from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The TASTE awards honor culinary excellence at the Jersey Shore in 13 categories. June 26 to 28: Experience some of the best food trucks the Northeast has to offer and some craft beers and cocktails at the Sea Isle City Food Truck Rally. Friday 12 to 4 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Returning trucks include Sum Pig, Five Sisters, Shore Shake, Kix Lincoln Grill, and more. Some new trucks at the rally will be Shore Creperie, Spectrum Farm to Table and Philly Fry. Kix McNutley’s, 63rd St, Sea Isle City.

June 27: Come out to Waterloo Village in Stanhope for the Just Jersey Food Truck and Music Festival, featuring over 30 gourmet food trucks, ranging from Puerto Rican and Thai food to sandwiches, sliders and pizza. There will be live music from School of Rock of Randolph, Stepping Stone Band and Jersey City’s DEVI as well. Parking is free and admission is $5. A portion of the money raised during the festival benefit the Roxbury Food Pantry. Bring your family and friends to an event that is filled with fun, food, and the arts. Waterloo Village Concert Field, Stanhope.

June 27 and 28: If you’re a fan of rock music and finger-lickin’-good barbeque, look no further. Come to the sixth annual Rock, Ribs, and Ridges Festival in Augusta. The event features award-winning ribs and great bands, including Blue Oyster Cult and the Marshall Tucker Band. Both single-day and weekend passes are available. Great music, great food, and a great time. What else could you need? The Sussex County Fairgrounds, 37 Plains Road, Augusta.

July 10 to 12: The New Jersey State Barbecue Championship features a championship barbecue competition which attracts teams from all over the country. In addition to enjoying mouthwatering foods, festival-goers will also be treated to live music, courtesy of the Anglesea Blues Festival, held in conjunction with the BBQ tournament. Admission is free, so make sure to check it out on your next trip down the shore. Olde New Jersey Avenue, North Wildwood.

August 15 and 16: The Shore Chef Crab Cake Cook-Off features crab cakes and seafood from top Garden State restaurants with chefs battling for Best Crab Cake and Best of the Rest. With the Munchmobile’s Pete Genovese heading up a panel of culinary and media industry judges and People’s Choice awards, everyone fills up on mouth-watering offerings. Monmouth Park, Oceanport.

September 5:  Kick back and visit the Jazz It Up Wine Festival from 12 to 5 p.m. to see some of the best jazz performers on the East Coast and taste delicious wines from 20 premier New Jersey wineries. It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors and taste amazing wine and foods. There will be crafts and activities for kids as well. $20 for entry. 4265 Atlantic Ave, Wall Township.

September 12: Take a trip to the Sussex County Fairgrounds for the first-ever NJ Taco Festival! For just $10, you’ll have access to over 40 of the best taco restaurants in New Jersey, free hot sauce and salsa tastings, and a chance to witness greatness with the New Jersey Taco-Eating Championship! With a Lucha wrestling event planned as well, this is sure to be an event to remember. Sussex County Fairgrounds, Augusta.

September 19 and 20: Get swept away by the Belmar Feast of San Gennaro, bringing authentic Italy to Belmar. Experience live music, parades, a mass and local Italian favorites throughout Main Street. Donations to the statue of San Gennaro will benefit the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Main Street, Belmar.
